Important Date for All Interested Applicants: Mandatory Fringe Interest Meeting - March 3, 2pm
Downstage Theater (2nd floor) at Live Arts
*All applications due by this date, either via email or in person at meeting.
For fifteen years, Live Arts has provided the tech services for the American High School Theatre Festival at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. Our work is managed by Jeremiah Brophy and by Matt Joslyn.
There are two sessions for Summer 2012: (1) July 29 - August 13; (2) August 16-27. It is possible to participate in only Session 1 or Sessions 1 and 2. It is not possible to work only Session 2.
We provide training, airfare, group accommodations (you will probably be sharing a room), Edinburgh bus passes, and a modest stipend for personal expenses. We are seeking volunteers (18 years of age or older) for each of the following categories:
• Technicians should have some depth of experience with technical theater (theatrical lighting, sound engineering, carpentry, etc.).
• Stage Managers should be graceful under pressure, well-organized, and able to deal with large-scale chaotic energy (stage managers, directors, actors, front of house staff, etc.).
Basic physical fitness, mobility, and upper body strength are required for all positions. Special consideration is given to those who have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to our local arts scene. Most of the work is overseas, but there are some mandatory meetings and training sessions in Charlottesville, VA before we leave for the summer (dates and times TBA).
The work is intense, the hours are long, and the frustration level can be high. This is not a holiday. But this is an inspiring, maddening, memorable event, and the chance of a lifetime.
If you would like to be considered for this work and have any questions, please e-mail Jeremiah Brophy with the email subject line "I'm interested in Edinburgh", and Jeremiah will be happy to help you out. You can also download the application directly RIGHT HERE, complete it, and email it straight to Jeremiah.
We look forward to hearing from you!
